CPD Director Participates in Conferences in Lebanon and Qatar

CPD Director Philip Seib participated in conferences in Beirut, Lebanon and Doha, Qatar on October 28-30, and October 31-November 1, respectively.

In Lebanon, the American University in Beirut hosted the annual conference of the Arab-US Association of Communication Educators. Speakers included two-time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and author Dana Priest of The Washington Post, NPR’s Andy Carvin, and Lebanon’s Minister of Education and Higher Education Hassan Diab. Seib presented on the topic of “Al-Jazeera English and Global News Literacy” and also moderated a research panel on “Digital Activism and Political Change.” A complete conference program may be found here.

In Doha, the Al Jazeera Centre for Studies in collaboration with CPD brought experts and Al Jazeera staff together to discuss the network’s past, present, and future during the “Al Jazeera at 15 Years” conference. Seib presented on “Al Jazeera and Public Diplomacy,” and served on a panel with the network’s new director general, Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al-Thani.
