Viet Thanh Nguyen on Expats, Immigrants, and Refugees

Following CPD's recent event, USC Annenberg Media, a student-run news organization, interviewed USC professor and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Viet Than Nguyen about the significance of the terms “expat,” “immigrant,” and "refugee," and the differences between them. For Nguyen, whose family sought refuge in the United States when he was just a child, refugees present a dilemma to host countries who may feel a moral obligation to help them, but at the same time may be “afraid of what they bring with them.”
