CPD Contributing Research Intern

Description

This position will assist CPD Research Fellow Joel Day is a director at the City of San Diego, where he oversees the City’s 49 public policy Boards and Commissions. He also liaisons as a homeland security advisor on issues of violent extremism and targeted violence, acting as the City’s representative to the Strong Cities Network and other city-to-city diplomatic networks. Day's CPD research project, "Peace and Security in the City: Local Leadership in Global Governance," evaluates how cities are creating a global epistemic community of practice and norm elaboration on environmental, food, health, political and other everyday forms of security.Start date is ASAP (flexible). Research work expected through December 2020. Please apply by May 4. 2020.

5 hrs/week maximum

This is a volunteer position, but your name and contribution will be referred to throughout the project

Requirements

  • Current USC graduate student status
  • Excellent conceptual and empirical research capability, writing and communications skills (in English)
  • Reliable and professional work ethic
  • Self-starter motivated to work independently and be regularly available for consultation with CPD staff and USC CPD Research Fellows
  • Strong interest in research topic at hand
  • Experience with qualitative research methodology, networking and interviews
  • Experience and literacy using social media platforms
  • Experience performing systemic literature review
