A BBC News Radio presenter and correspondent mocked US Secretary of State John Kerry for bringing musician James Taylor to Paris, evidently to make amends for missing last Sunday’s unity march. (VIDEO: Apology Tour: John Kerry Brings James Taylor To Paris To Play ‘You’ve Got A Friend’)

“I can’t think of a better definition of ‘soft power] than James Taylor blasting out across the universe to seduce us with his dulcet tones,” BBC Paris correspondent Hugh Schofield said. (RELATED: BBC To Cut Air Time For Climate Change Skeptics)

“He was also here to in a way to say sorry, or at least sort of make up for the fact that the Americans made a little bit of a diplomatic faux pas in not sending a senior representative to the march on Sunday,” Schofield noted. “I think they misread it very badly. I don’t think they realized when it was being set up that it would turn into the global event that it turned into.”

“Yeah, and I think the White House has sort of said, ‘We made a mistake,'” another BBC presenter noted. “Quite unusual to hear something so plainly stated.”
