Consulate of Israel in Los Angeles First Government Office to Embrace Tablets and E-Readers for Public Diplomacy

Los Angeles, CA, April 25, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles, an official diplomatic office of the government of Israel, has launched a new public diplomacy initiative to utilize tablet and e-reader devices to streamline the distribution of books and official documents.

Dillon Hosier, the consulate’s political officer and Director of Digital Diplomacy developed the plan. “In the US we’re seeing huge growth in tablet adoption and the Israeli government is innovating its public diplomacy approach to leverage this technology and distribute official information with ease and efficiency,” Hosier said.

Recent statistics show that tablet and e-reader adoption is growing with 70% of US Internet users considering a purchase within the next three years. The Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles is laying the groundwork for this growth by developing the infrastructure and document creation protocols early on. And, over the next several weeks the consulate will launch a special portal on its website allowing users to download documents specially formatted for tablets and e-reader devices. Interactive digital diplomacy apps for popular tablet devices and smart phones are also in the development pipeline.

To promote the use of tablets and e-readers and in support of this new initiative, the Israeli consulate in Los Angeles is giving away a custom designed Kindle: Israel Edition preloaded with books. Learn more at www.israella.org/kindle.
