NEW DELHI: With a view to strengthen cultural relations and to showcase diverse Indian culture to Brazilian people, the union ministry of culture is organizing a festival of India in three cities of Brazil.
The festival beginning August 31 will have shows on classical dances, literature, cuisine and exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi.
Officials of the ministry of culture said that the purpose is to strengthen international cultural relations and to showcase cultural diversity. Moreover, it will also help in attracting the tourists of the target country towards Indian tourism. “Ministry is organizing ‘Festival of India’ in many countries in coming months and Brazil is one of them where the fest will be held between 31 August-9 September. The events in Festival of India generally include cultural events like dance, music, theater, films, food, literary festival, exhibitions etc,” said an official.
Three cities including Brasilia, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have been selected for the events. There will be Bharatnatyam dance by Devayani and Group and Kathak Dance by Nandini Singh and Group. Apart from this, Indian Food Festival will also be held showcasing cuisines of different Indian regions. There will be literary festival and an exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi.
Culture ministry organizes such festivals in other countries through the Indian Missions situated there. Indian missions are the nodal implementing agency abroad for such events and ministry of culture communicate with them if they want to hold such events. The ministry also provides them with a list of cultural events that could be held on the occasion, added the official.
In coming months, such festivals will be organized in Oman, Kazakhstan, Tanzania, Ghana, Combodia, Netherlands, Kenya and some other countries.
