Ethiopia: Diaspora's Irreplaceable Role for the Successful Completion of GERD

The cornerstone of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) was laid by the great leader; His Excellency Meles Zenawi in April 2011, in Benishangul Gumuz State. Being the emblem of Ethiopian renaissance, the under construction giant Dam across the Blue Nile river has created the spirit of "Yes, we can... " and the winning psychology in the hearts of all Ethiopians. Following the disclosure of the construction of this historical project, Ethiopians from far and wide as well as the diaspora from all corners of the world have expressed their passionate and extraordinary support for the Dam. "Today, our right to benefit from our natural resources has been ensured!", "ensuring our advantage, we support the development of others!" and a number of such slogans were reverberated in many mass rallies held at home and abroad.

All Nations, Nationalities and Peoples of Ethiopia, regardless of sex, religion, ethnicity, living standard, and education qualification differences have reiterated their determination to pay any possible sacrifice for the realization of this mega project. This has been manifested in practical participation like buying bonds, financial and material donation, and through active participation in the different resource mobilization programmes as well.
