What with The Hunger Games and Twilight being among the highest-grossing movie series in cinematic history, it comes as no surprise that both franchises are set to be transformed into outdoor attractions at a planned theme park.

On Tuesday (August 15), Lionsgate announced that it will be opening its first branded outdoor theme park at Jeju Shinhwa World, South Korea.

The planned outdoor attraction will span 1.3 million square feet and will be developed into seven movie zones, each themed around blockbusters such as The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga and Now You See Me, as well as the upcoming March 2018 release Robin Hood.

Each zone will also feature themed restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops and entertainment performances, and visitors can experience actual movie scenes through state-of-the-art rides, attractions and reproduced streets and towns.

In a statement, Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer said: "We're pleased to partner with our friends at Landing International, one of Asia's premier developers, on our first branded outdoor theme park and one of our largest and most exciting location-based entertainment destinations.

"Our partners are creating a world-class resort that will be the perfect home for our theme park."

Yang Zhihui, Chairman and Executive Director of Landing International Development Limited, added: "It is our great honour to have Lionsgate as our partner.

"We are very excited to have the first Lionsgate Movie World at Jeju Shinhwa World, bringing Hollywood movies and their immersive environments to our theme park to deliver a premium guest experience."

Lionsgate Movie World is expected to commence construction in 2018 and is scheduled to open in 2019.

It comes after Lionsgate revealed that more Hunger Games and Twilight films could be in the works.

Feltheimer declared that he is keen for both series to return to the big screen at some point in the future.

"There are a lot more stories to be told, and we're ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories," he said.
