Turkey will do everything possible for the Crimea to remain part of Ukraine, according to the Head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Ahmet Davutoglu.

“Turkey will make every effort to secure Crimea’s future within Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” he wrote on Twitter.

Russia’s Federation Council on Saturday unanimously satisfied a request from President Vladimir Putin to use Russian armed forces in Ukraine until socio-political environment of the country was stabilized.

This resolution took effect at the moment it was passed, according to Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko.

However, the decision of the Federation Council to satisfy Putin’s request to use Russian soldiers in the Crimea doesn’t mean it will be done in the nearest future, according to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin.

“The approval that our president has received doesn’t literally mean that this right will be exercised promptly,” Karasin told reporters.

“Today’s approval, which was unanimously granted to Russian President Vladimir Putin to use Russian armed forces in Ukraine until the socio-political environment of the country is stabilized, means only that the president’s hands are free, if there’s further escalation,” he said.

According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, the number of the soldiers that might be deployed to Ukraine had even been discussed yet.

“The presidents’ request and the approval of the Federation Council must be understood correctly: the approval was granted for the possible use of Russia’s armed forces,” Karasin said.
