Abstract

The Spanish language has acquired increasing importance over the last decade. After English, Spanish is quite possibly the most favored language of the so-called global era. As regards Mexico, the country evidently lacks a clear-cut cultural diplomacy strategy for promoting the Spanish language in the United States as a way of extending its soft power. This essay analyzes the use of the Spanish language as a retroactive strategy to help secure Mexico a place in ‘the minds and hearts’ of Americans.
