CPD Is Partner at World Expo 2020 Dubai for USA Pavilion
The U.S. Department of State has announced the selection of Big Things Group LLC to lead the USA Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, which will be held October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021.
CPD is the primary academic partner with Big Things Group on the winning bid to design and implement a pavilion that showcases the best of American culture, technology and values in the field of mobility in particular.
As a strategic partner, CPD will contribute to the project in two key areas:
- Pavilion Design Strategy & Monitoring and Evaluation — CPD's director and leading academic expert in the design of Expo pavilions for country promotion purposes, Jay Wang, will serve as chief advisor on pavilion design, monitoring and evaluation. CPD will provide research and evaluation tools to pavilion designers, as well as public diplomacy training to all staff, volunteers and U.S. ambassador-guides.
- Student and Alumni Ambassador Programs — Managed through the combined efforts of CPD, Global Ties U.S. and local partners in the United Arab Emirates, these programs of the USA Pavilion will recruit, train and manage young leaders from across the United States, as well as alumni from U.S. Government exchange programs, who will help tell America’s story to the Expo's expected 25 million visitors during its six-month showcase.
Wang is also a member of Advising Pavilion USA 2020, a diverse and talented set of leaders from across the United States and the UAE representing such institutions, organizations and companies as NASA, Columbia Pictures, the NYU-Abu Dhabi Media Lab and others.
Expo 2020 Dubai will be the first World Expo to take place in the Middle East-Africa-South Asia region—since the first Expo in 1851 at London's Crystal Palace—and will be the biggest public diplomacy event of the year.
