Mission Conan O'Brien: Qatar
Late-night television host Conan O’Brien aired a special comedic broadcast from his recent visit to Al Udedid Air Base in Qatar. O’Brien was there with First Lady Michelle Obama as part of her Joining Forces initiative, an organization which provides employment, education and entertainment opportunities for current and retired U.S. service members and their families. This visit overseas marked O’Brien’s third such international broadcast; previous trips included Cuba and Armenia, both in 2015. Highlights from this international special, dubbed Mission Conan, included O’Brien’s participation in K9 training, a look at the base’s bomb squad robots, and busting out 50 push-ups on stage for FLOTUS. As this video demonstrates, Mission Conan was not only an entertainment success, but a powerful example of celebrity and cultural diplomacy in action.
