Foreign volunteers flock to Calais to help migrants

International volunteers and NGOs are helping over 3,000 displaced people stranded in “the jungle,” a makeshift refugee camp in Calais, France.

Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, has said that the final report of the Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (DAC/OECD), released earlier this week, has affirmed the UAE’s worthiness to win the first position as the world’s largest donor country of official development assistance (ODA) in proportion to its gross national income (ODA/GNI ratio)(...)

The event itself is still nearly two years away, but already the "pre-summits" are in full swing. Concept notes have been written, regional consultations have started, and online forums are open for comments - all leading up to the World Humanitarian Summit itself, scheduled to take place in Turkey, probably during May 2016. The meeting was proposed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and is timed so that it will take place just as his second term of office will be drawing to a close.
