Ahead of the visit to Astana by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in early April, Nurbakh Rustemov, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador in Budapest, shared his views on the bilateral relations and their future, touching, among other things on the interesting and long-standing cultural links between the two countries. 

Only in recent years has Russia begun to pay attention to soft power, and develop the tools that might help convey a positive Russian image abroad. In the meantime, China and the United States have developed their own presence in the region, and the Kremlin has seen a decline in Russian language use in the region.

As NATO Contact Point in Kazakhstan, Ambassador of Estonia Jaan Reinhold hopes to share the values of the alliance in the country; bilaterally, the ambassador is hoping to see an increase in educational, technological and scientific exchanges during his mission here, as well increase agricultural and transit cooperation.

A state-sponsored program to build mosques in countries from Kazakhstan to Cuba has emerged as a foreign policy instrument for Turkey, boosting the country’s claim to a place on the international stage as a leader of the Islamic world that looks after Muslims everywhere.

 

Academic Diplomatic Club

The new Academic Diplomatic Club in Astana, Kazakhstan aims to serve as an international platform for public diplomacy practitioners, students, and scholars.

Kazakhstan is scrambling to keep its diplomatic options open amid rapidly rising Western-Russian tension. Not wanting to get dragged down by Western sanctions imposed on Russia, Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s administration is ramping up an international charm offensive.

Hosting the Olympics is nice and all, but, after watching host city after host city getbludgeoned by the International Olympic Committee, and the media, for their prep work as they try to pull together what has become a colossus of an event, perhaps we’ve reached a tipping point—nobody really wants to host the Olympics anymore. While that may be a bit of an overstatement, perhaps this is more accurate: Beijing is set to be the perma-host of budget busting Olympic Games.

Maharashtra hosted its first Kazakhstan film festival, celebrating the history, culture and evolution of that Central Asian country.  The four-day festival was organized in Pune by the National Film Archives of India (NFAI), Pune International Centre (PIC) and the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
